07.12.2017
In the campuses in Stromynka Street and Vernadsky Ave., 86 of Moscow Technological University, from November 20 to 25, there were events dedicated to the All-Russian Day of Dictionaries and Encyclopedias, established in 2010 on the initiative of the Society of Russian Literature and the Museum of VI. Dahl.

First-year students of the International Education Institute, Economics and Law Institute, Complex Security and Special Instrument Engineering Institute took part in open lectures on the Russian language and culture of speech about the importance of dictionaries for historical self-knowledge and self-description of the people, including comprehension of modern history.

The students of the Complex Security and Special Instrument Engineering Institute interviewed the townspeople of Moscow to find out why the Day of Dictionaries and Encyclopedias is celebrated on November 22; who it is dedicated to; in which cases they use dictionaries; in what form the dictionary-reference literature is used at present. A video film covering the results of the survey can be watched on the screen in the campus in Stromynka Street.

The libraries of the University organized portable exhibitions of dictionaries and encyclopedias, telling about the variety of vocabulary and bibliographic literature and inculcating the skills of its systematic use. Here, students were able to see unusual, old books, which are stored in the libraries of Moscow Technological University, for example, the "Polytechnical Dictionary", published in 1896 in Moscow.

Lexicographical quizzes and competitions organized by the students of the Economics and Law Institute interested and enthralled all participants, as they were conducted in a multimedia interactive form on-line. The culmination of the holiday was a concert with various creative turns.

The organizers of the holiday - the Russian Language Department (as a foreign language) of the International Education Institute - thanked the most active participants and made a proposal to make such days in our University traditional ones.
