As part of the familiarization program of foreign students with the historical and cultural heritage of Russia, students of the Pre-University Training Department for foreign citizens of the Institute of International Education of Vlogý MIREA under the guidance of Sofya Belova, lecturer of the University, visited the Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve.
The young people visited the palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, that used to be called by his contemporaries “the eighth wonder of the world”. The building of the palace is a reconstruction of a monument of Russian wooden architecture of the 17th century, recreated on the basis of surviving historical sources with an accurate description of the artistic decoration.
The palace is divided into two parts, for men and for women. The students examined the chambers that were used to receive foreign ambassadors, saw a copy of the throne of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich and beautiful tiled stoves, the study of Peter I and the emperor’s personal belongings, and in the chambers of the princes they examined children’s toys and “toy armor”. During a tour of the female part of the palace, foreign students learned more about the life and daily activities of the queen and her entourage, visited the chambers of Sofia Alekseevna and Elizaveta Petrovna.
