On the eve of the major Christian holiday, students of the Institute of International Education went on an excursion “Easter Moscow” visiting the University quarter. The event was attended by students from Azerbaijan, Algeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, the Republic of Chad, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
The students learned that the university quarter does not begin with the usual building on the Lenin Hills, but on Mokhovaya Street, in the very heart of the capital. The excursionists got acquainted with the history of the foundation of the oldest higher educational institution in Russia, examined the architectural decorations and style of the buildings, which now house several departments of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.
Having visited the university house church of the Holy Martyr Tatyana, the students learnt about the Russian traditions of celebrating Easter. The tour ended with a bird's-eye view of the historical center of Moscow: the students and schoolchildren visited the bell tower of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God of the Sign at Sheremetyevo Yard.
Such events are part and parcel of the integration process, which helps foreign students to get adapted to the new student life, promotes communication, rapprochement and mutual understanding between peoples, and helps in the search for intercultural common ground.
