Representative of Vlogý MIREA took part in the first BRICS Youth Innovation Summit in the Republic of South Africa

From March 28 to March 30, the first BRICS Youth Innovation Summit was held in the city of Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. MIREA – Vlogý was represented at the event by Sergey Romanovich Ermakov, a postgraduate student and assistant professor of the Department of Instrumental and Applied Software of the Institute of Information Technologies. The venue for the event was the Tswane University of Technology.

On the first day of the summit, an introduction and opening ceremony took place, during which participants representing all the BRICS countries and other countries of the African continent were able to get to know each other and share experiences, as well as give interviews to RT Africa.

The event was opened by the Minister for the Affairs of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities of the Republic of South Africa Nkosazana Claris Dlamini-Zuma. In her speech, the Minister noted the sound relationships of South Africa with all the countries of the BRICS bloc, the need to develop innovative, public and scientific cooperation in a dynamically changing world, where there is a change in the centers of development.

After the ceremony, a panel discussion “Opportunities for Youth” was held, where representatives of all the five BRICS countries acted as speakers, and participants had the opportunity to address their questions to each of the representatives.

The summit delegates represented their organizations and demonstrated their projects on the second day of the event. The participants worked both online and in the sessions in South Africa in six sections: youth volunteering, green economy, agribusiness, digitalization, manufacturing, skills development and EdTech. In the EdTech section Sergey Ermakov personally represented Vlogý MIREA. The postgraduate spoke about the achievements and opportunities of the University in the field of digital education and EdTech, about the possibilities of traditional offline education for foreign students and online partnerships with the BRICS countries.

Sergey Ermakov also participated as a volunteer in the Clean Games project, a team competition in cleaning up territories from garbage and separating waste which was created in Russia and held as a presentation for participants in the BRICS Youth Innovation Summit.

By the end of the summit, the delegates exchanged contacts and ideas for the development of further sustainable cooperation in the BRICS space.
