The Institute of Information Technologies expands its laboratory base in the field of mobile development

16.06.2023

The Institute of Information Technologies has expanded the laboratory base in the field of mobile development by purchasing and starting to introduce KHADAS VIM3L single-board computers into the educational process as part of the HTPC Kit.

With the help of these computers, students can solve the following tasks:

  • development and assembly of distributions of operating systems based on the Android Open Source Project, as well as the Linux kernel;

  • prototyping of multimedia content management systems;

  • development of system applications for Android SmartTV set-top boxes.

The HTPC Kit includes:

  • single board computer VIM3L SBC (2GB RAM, 16GB eMMC, S905D3);

  • plastic DIY case and plates for cooling SSD and processor;

  • Khadas IR Remote-control panel;

  • two Wi-Fi antennas.

The KHADAS VIM3L single-board computer is capable of running the Android operating system, OS distributions based on the Linux kernel, as well as specialized OS for multimedia systems.

This laboratory equipment will be used for the first time by the Department of Software and Standardization of Information Technologies in practical work on the subject “Architecture of operating systems of mobile devices”, taught to students of the profile “System and Software Engineering” in Software Engineering S.A. Golovin, Head of the Department, noted the importance of introducing single-board computers into the practical work of the Institute of Information Technologies, since this will increase the number of specialists in system programming and the development of mobile operating systems. E.A. Chernov, Associate Professor of the Department, emphasized the possibility of using KHADAS VIM3L to demonstrate the full development cycle of mobile operating systems.
