The Institute of International Education hosted a New Year’s performance “Father Frost’s Journey”, which brought together about 150 students from around the world. The musical performance staged by the students of the HEBO-02-21 and HEBO-12-21 groups impressed the audience with its dynamism, unpredictable plot twists, music and special effects. The New Year’s round-the-world trip of the main winter wizard, together with the heroes of Russian fairy tales, became the frame for a concert program prepared by students from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Haiti, Iraq, Cameroon, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France, South Africa. The students read poems, talked about New Year’s traditions, sang and danced.
Music proved to be of dominating importance at the party: both well-known melodies and completely new ones sounded all the evening. The delicate voice of the gentle violin opened the performance with a wonderful potpourri of well-known festive melodies. Then the baton was taken over by the unforgettable, expressive guitar and ukulele, and the concert was completed by the daring Russian button accordion. The “Troubadour Serenade” sounded with a light haze of sadness, reminding to all those present of the value of feelings, kindness, acceptance and understanding.
The refined storyline of the performance invited guests to rejoice at the upcoming wonderful changes, to think about the essential things, and to come to understand the diversity of traditions, cultural and mental features.
The director of the event was Zhanna Olegovna Moskvina, Ph.D, professor of the Department of Russian (as a foreign language) of the Institute of International Education.
This holiday contributed to the strengthening of interethnic ties, rapprochement between the peoples and, of course, gave another opportunity for students studying the Russian language to plunge into the polyphony and amazing originality of our speech.
Such events aimed at harmonizing interethnic relations among foreign students, promoting the Russian language, culture and traditions of Russia are an integral part of the work of the Institute of International Education and the Department of Russian (as a foreign language).
