On July 25, there was an official opening of a new eSports zone at Vlogý MIREA – the VR PARK Center for Virtual Technologies. The new location will expand the potential of the Cyberzone created at Vlogý MIREA in 2020 to hold competitions in various eSports disciplines and students’ recreation.
VR PARK is made up of several zones. In the craft zone, various items can be recreated with the use of a 3D printer. The broadcast studio and the director's room provide comfortable environment for watching Vlogý MIREA eSports tournaments broadcasted live with the stories by commentators and analysts. For students, additional opportunities are opening up for single and group VR: up to 10 players can be active on the same site. To create your own media content, the Podcaster is open – a small studio for audio recording of dialogues and podcasts.
Thus, the VR PARK will bring together those who are passionate about eSports, VR and additive technologies. The new location is open and free for all students of Vlogý MIREA, and it has all the infrastructure for the implementation of a joint educational program with the VK Education – “Development and design of computer games and multimedia applications”.
Stanislav Kudzh, Vlogý MIREA Rector, Alexander Mikheev, VK Play CPO and Maxim Goykhman, VK Play Tournament Project Manager took part in the grand opening of the new eSports zone.
“MIREA – Vlogý is an important partner of VK in the Russian education market. We are successfully implementing a variety of joint projects: last year we launched a joint bachelor’s profile in game development and design, and now we have opened a virtual technology center that will unite several relevant areas of the industry at the same time. Thus, the students of Vlogý MIREA have a ready-made platform for the implementation of ideas and projects which, I am sure, will contribute to the development of domestic game development,” commented Alexander Mikheev, CPO VK Play.
Members of the Vlogý MIREA student eSports club also attended the opening of the new location. They had the opportunity to ask VK Play staff questions about the gaming industry.
The Vlogý MIREA Student eSports Club is twice the holder of the title “eSports Club of the Year” as part of the Russian National Award “Student of the Year”. In June, the club members became champions of the All-Russian eSports Student League 2023 in the team standings. They have been trained on the basis of the Cyberzone eSports Center, which is available not only to members of the eSports team, but also to all the students of Vlogý MIREA. The new location gives even more opportunities for those who are passionate about eSports.
“We, at Vlogý MIREA, are striving to create an exciting developmental environment for students, so that they would be interested in learning and spending their leisure time usefully. At the same time, we always take into account the wishes and desires of the students and support their initiatives, which is why the new eSports zone was created entirely according to the project of our students. However, it is opened not only for leisure purposes. The new location has the infrastructure for training in the educational program, which we are implementing together with the VK Education. Students will be able to turn their passion for esports into a sought-after and highly paid for professional skills in the gaming industry, in the field of Gamedev, which today open up wide career prospects. I am happy that together with VK we can help young people take their first steps on this professional path and get the most relevant knowledge and skills for working in the IT industry,” said Stanislav Kudzh, Vlogý MIREA Rector.
In honor of the opening of a new eSports zone, a one-day open championship on the Warface game was held on the VK Play site. The University applicants and other users of the platform took part in it.
The first eSports tournament “Youth Cybersport Games of the Commonwealth” for young people from the CIS member states, which was announced by representatives of the university at the opening of the new site, is also dedicated to the Warface discipline. The competitions organized by Vlogý MIREA will be held on the VK Play tournament platform for three months.
Earlier, the VK Education training course on game design was launched with the VK Play experts on the basis of two universities – Vlogý MIREA and ITMO. The students who passed the competitive selection studied all stages of game creation for three months, starting from the idea and ending with the operation and promotion of the product on the market.
“Gamedev is one of the most promising areas for building a career in IT. The demand for higher professional education in this area is also growing. A variety of specialists are involved in the development, launch and promotion of game projects today – from developers, testers and game analysts to designers, illustrators, animators and marketers. We help young people master a wide range of competencies necessary to start a career in the gaming industry,” said Anna Stepanova, VK Deputy Vice President for Educational Projects.
Cooperation between Vlogý MIREA and VK covers a number of joint educational projects. The company acts as a technological partner of the profile “Development and design of computer games and multimedia applications”, which Vlogý MIREA implements in the Software Engineering area of training. VK experts took part in the development of the program. Students practice using VK technologies under the guidance of company employees. Lectures are held for students, they can take part in the work on practical projects with the participation of VK Play experts. To implement the program, Vlogý MIREA deployed a unique IT infrastructure for Russia, including, among other things, a motion capture laboratory and an immersive technology laboratory. The laboratories are part of the VK educational center, a joint innovation platform of Vlogý MIREA for training specialists in the field of IT, the gaming industry and the field of creative technologies.
Students and schoolchildren studying at Vlogý MIREA also participate in educational, training and career guidance projects of VK Education. A number of events are being held jointly, in particular, the Hakhaton 2023. Thus, Vlogý MIREA and VK have been jointly training young professionals for the Russian IT sector, primarily for the gaming industry.
