On May 20, students of the Institute of International Education from Azerbaijan, Algeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Congo, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan went on an excursion of the cycle “Moscow: History, People, Events”, which was organized by J.O. Moskvina, lecturer of the Department of Russian (as a foreign language).
The review of the sights of the capital began in the very heart of Moscow, on Red Square. Foreign students got acquainted with the history of the main shrine of our city – the Kremlin, founded by order of Tsar Ivan III. The students learned how the Moscow Kremlin became an island, and the square got the name “Red”, what secrets the towers of the fortress wall keep, where the Execution Ground originally was and for what purposes it was intended. The students were told why the Neglinka River gained gloomy fame, where the Emperor of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, lost the famous cocked hat without becoming a winner.
The students visited the Cathedral of the Kazan Mother of God, at the monument to Minin and Pozharsky, learned about the events of the Second Militia, about the history of the Cathedral of the Intercession on the Moat, which acquired a second name – “St. Basil's Cathedral”, and also visited the building of the trading tower of the XIX century, known to Muscovites and guests of the capital as GUM.
