The Institute of International Education held Mother Language Week dedicated to the International Mother Language Day celebrated annually in different countries of the world on February 21.
Students from Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Vietnam, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Indonesia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Republic of the Congo, the Republic of Chad, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, France and Equatorial Guinea read poetry works, legends, fairy tales in their native languages explaining the features and cultural identity of their mother tongue. This year the traditional Mother Language Day which is held annually at the Institute of International Education in various formats, has grown into Mother Language Week with the more active participation of foreign students in the events.
The linguistic polyphony was amazing: Arabic, Armenian, Belarusian, Vietnamese, Gagauz, Indonesian, Spanish, Kyrgyz, Lezgi, Lingala, Ossetian, Portuguese, Serbian, Swahili, Tajik, Tatar, Ukrainian, French and, of course, Russian. Those present at the festival were also fascinated by the impressive palette of national costumes, photo and video broadcasts from the home archives of the foreign participants. The Department of Russian (as a Foreign Language) of the Institute of International Education notes that such events contribute to the interethnic communication and mutual understanding between peoples, and help intercultural exchange.
