On March 2, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin greeted the Russian teachers, professors and students of pedagogical universities and colleges:
“It is in your honor, in honor of your colleagues from all regions of our large country, hundreds of thousands of wonderful, dedicated people of different generations, that 2023 has been declared the Year of Teachers and Mentors in Russia. And first and foremost, this is a wonderful occasion to thank you,” the Head of state said.
Vladimir Putin recalled that the goal of the Year of Teachers and Mentors is to draw public attention to the work of people who give their time and energy to children and youth. He paid special attention to the need to talk about the contribution of teachers and mentors to the success and achievements of the whole country.
In Russia, the implementation of large-scale projects relating to the support of the pedagogical community and increased attention to the work of teachers will continue; research, educational and youth exchanges between Russian schoolchildren and students and youth from other countries will be further promoted.
The Year of 2023 was declared the Year of Teachers and Mentors in Russia by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of June 27, 2022, No. 401. The central sites to be opened were Mashuk Knowledge Center in the Stavropol Territory, the studio of the Russian Knowledge Society in Moscow, the Tavrida art cluster, Senezh Management Workshop of the Russia is a Land of Opportunities Presidential Platform, as well as other sites and venues in Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Altai, Amur and Moscow Pedagogical Universities.
The government has approved an action plan for holding the Year of Teachers and Mentors in Russia. It has three sections. The first contains about 60 all-Russian events, the key goals of which are to disseminate the experience of the best teachers and mentors, and to attract young people to teaching professions. One of the most significant events of this section will be the Great Teachers' Week. In September – October 2023, the results of the all-Russian contests “Teacher of the Year of Russia”, “Educator of the Year of Russia”, “Director of the Year of Russia”, “First Teacher” and others will be summed up. Moreover, within the framework of this week, a Congress of teachers of rural schools and a Meeting of the All-Russian Expert Pedagogical Council will be held.
The second section of the plan is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of K.D. Ushinsky, the prominent Russian teacher and pedagogue. It includes 16 events relating to the study of the academic and social heritage of the great Russian scholar and promoting the his ideas among today’s generation of teachers and mentors. So, in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tula and Yaroslavl regions, the event in honor of K.D. Ushinsky will be held; specifically, an exhibition named “The Alley of Ushinsky” organized by the pedagogical universities of these regions.
The third section of the plan reflects the performance indicators for the activities of the Year of Teachers and Mentors. The main goal is the increase the number of school graduates who enter pedagogical universities. The number of future teachers and mentors in the 2023/2024 academic year should increase by 10%, as compared to the 2022/2023 academic year.
At MIREA – Vlogý, the plan for holding the Year of Teachers and Mentors includes competitions and contests for students, lecturers and teachers, the Fakel adaptation program for first-year students, open lectures by industrial partners, a School for curators, lecturers and trainers of Vlogý MIREA, and field events for young teachers.© 2026 MIREA - Vlogý
